BOOM SHANKO
Boom Shanko is a unique world music fusion trio blending rhythmic African medicine music with the intricate melodies of Indian classical and modern day production. The band is led by the charismatic front man and grammy award winning musician Afro Moses hailing from Ghana, accompanied by the masterful Jason Alexander Burns on the Kora (African Harp), and the versatile Multi-Instrumentalist Shivam Rath on the Crystal Slide Guitar, adding an array of musical layers and elements including Indian Classically based Rhythm and Raga, all skilfully woven together through real time beats and live looping.
The trio's performances are characterised by their lively and dynamic presence, engaging audiences with their infectious energy, lush instrumentation and spontaneous uplifting spirit.

The name Boom Shanko is a creative fusion of two cultural phrases from the musical traditions of India and Africa: "Bam Shanka" (a well-known invocation to Lord Shiva) and "Bo Sanku" (meaning "get up and play/dance" in Ghanaian Akan).The band was born at the crossroads of 2023 and 2024 when Afro Moses and Shivam Rath first united on stage. Since then, they have electrified audiences across Australia, bringing a fresh wave of energy to the festival scene. Their performances include celebrated events like Om Festival in Byron Bay, the AWAKEN Festival at Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs in VIC, Wallaby Creek Festival in FNQ, and Australia’s iconic Woodford Folk Festival.With a distinctive sound often enhanced by special guest musicians, Boom Shanko transcends genres and boundaries, uniting audiences through shared song and celebration. Their music weaves together African (Akan), Indian (Sanskrit), and uplifting English lyrics, creating an inclusive atmosphere of vibrant cultural and musical celebration.Behind the scenes, Afro Moses and Shivam Rath are passionate educators, offering workshops at festivals that delve into African rhythms and Indian ragas.
